A few facts in our trip:

  • Our first time off Romania!
  • The Romanian agency which organised the trip: Travis
  • Transport to and from Greece was made with a bus. We had 2 drivers who proved to be heighly professionals! They were drive fast and safe, and they knew how to deal with Bulgarian authorities
  • Total time on the road to Greece: 27 hours
  • The country that left us with an unpleasant taste: Bulgaria
  • Total time spent on the Greek duane: 5 hours. We stayed 5 hours because of the traffic [ houndreds of cars and tens of buses and just few workers - I have seen only 5-8 workers! ]
  • The Greek agency which organised [bad] all the events and trips in Paralia Katerinis: Dolce Vita
  • Number of optional trips we took: 2 - Meteora Monasteries and Skiathos Island
  • Number of optional events we took: 1 - Easter Festive
  • The biggest surprise I had in Paralia Katerinis: finding Edi Popa, one of my friends who lives in Iasi, like me, I have not seen for quite a long time
  • The traditional food impressed me so much: Kalamari. We also had: Tsatsiki, Souvlaki, Baclava, Gyros Pita
  • Olives found on the markets were impressive good and tasteful

Katerini has a nice park and wonderful country nearby. Not only Mount Olympus, but to the West of the city the hills and mountains of Pieria. Good food - the restaurants are not expensive - and a lively pavement cafe life from around 11 am onwards (except for the afternoon nap - 3 to 6 pm.) Shopping is better value in Salonika and the coastal resorts to the south such as Platamonas and Leptokarya are more attractive. Paralia is fine if you have small kids - lots of sand - and good discos for those who enjoy the night life. It’s best seen by night, actually! The architecture scores 0 out of 10. This is also true of the town, but then it is for most modern Greek towns. The hotels are not as cheap as they used to be, but you can find value if you look around.
Some of the villages are much more attractive - take the road up the mountain pass to Elassona from the West of the town and visit Agios Dimitrios and Livadi, a charming town of around 7,000 inhabitants (not much in the way of restaurants, though!) or Litochoro to the South(good restaurants). The ruins of the Ancient City of Dion, Alexander the Great’s training camp, should not be missed.
To summarise - a good centre for visiting a beautiful, almost undiscovered part of the world!

Like the gallery, and I only speak a little Romanian. I was in your home town the other week, on business, and stayed at the Hotel Moldova. The best bit though was the view from my room of the castle!! Fantastic, like something out of a fairytale.
Im off to Skiathos, Greece soon, Ill send your regards.
    Best………….

Thessalonki is extremly close to Katerini, which is the secong largest city in Greece! It has a great vew of the oceans anywhere in the area! The beaches have a slow, cool slide to it. There are not that many waves in the oceans. The restaurants have splended, marvelous food that will fill you up for the night. They also have great hotels, that lighten up in the night. It’s very relaxing in the night down near the oceans and in the morning you can hear all the birds chirping, the clouds swaying here to there, and the oceans tide slighty crashing against the shore. Kateini is a beautiful town at the base of Mount Olympus that faces the Aegea Sea. tHE town has a population of 56,576 people. Its history goes back to the very beginning of Greece history as the city of Dion was one of the first Macedonian cities. Katerini is a very small city, and has great villages with distinct warmth, you will not find in any other city! Katerini and its great sites, is definetly worth a long visit!
