sIFR Flash Fonts Library
Wednesday, February 9, 2005
sIFR is an amazing technique for replacing headings with fancy fonts. This technique doesn’t require the font to be installed on the client machine but requires the developer to edit sifr.fla and export the font in .swf. This is what I did and I have a list of such .swf fonts that can be used free on your website.
What happends if you do not have a Macromedia Flash installation on your computer or, for whatever reason, you can not export your desired font into .swf? This article tries to give you a hand, hopping that you will find the font you need in the list.
If you know that any of these fonts are not free, please contact me as soon as you can so I remove the font from the list.
Enjoy!
PS. Before asking me how to use sIFR tehnique, please make sure you visit sIFR Documentation & FAQ. I do not offer any support [ email, YM or in any other way ].
PS2. Please note that all these fonts are for sIFR 2!
Any donations are appreciated! Thank you!
I currentlly have added 289 fonts! More to come!
You may download sIFR Fonts Libray PACK [ 5MB ].

This is so fabulous - I’ve been wanting to try sIFR but don’t have Flash - and just the font I needed is on your list. Thanks so much!

Great ! But… Would you mind showing there a little bit bigger?
Thank you very much.

increasing the size visable would be wonderful… otherwise you may as well just have a planetext list, because the previews are pretty much unreadable.
Still though.. it is a wonderful resouce to have a swf font collection avalible like this. Thanks!

SWEET work! But yes, as other have mentioned — they are WAyyyyyyy too small to even read? Resource with great potential if you fix that I think!

Currently working on my new site - and started to play with sIFR to spice things up a little.
Problem is; most of my entry titles will end up being written in danish or other scandinavian languages. As far as I can tell, none of the fonts available for the wordpress-plugin version of sIFR support any of the accented letters used in Scandinavia.
Whenever I try to open one of the flash files (in Flash Pro), to add the accents, I get the following error: “Cannot open a protected movie”
Would you happen to know how I can work around this? I have some fonts of my own that I could like to use as well, since not at lot of freeware fonts are made to work outside the english speaking world.
Any help or pointing me towards a helpful sollution would be much appreciated.
Thanks a bunch!

Stefan,
i could not find a possibility to download the fonts as a pack.
but that would be really nice to have… like a “isarie.com sIFR font pack”
thank you for that great piece of work!

Hi guys!
Thanks so much for your kind words! As you requested, I have made the fonts a little bigger so they can be readable! I will also add in short time an archive containing all the fonts in current sIFR fonts library!
So please stay tuned! Enjoy!

You can now download the Stefan’s sIFR Fonts Library as a pack! See above!
Enjoy!

[…] I came across a post on Ryan Stewart’s blog with a very useful link to a post on isarie.com with a listing of available fonts formatted as SWFs, which can be easily used in Flex. I was actually thinking about doing something like this as well as creating icon library SWFs, but I’m glad I didn’t go through the trouble of duplicating others’ efforts. Font copyrights also was factor, but it looks like most of these fonts can be found from free font resources like fontfreak.com, 1001freefonts.com and in your system fonts library. […]

[…] I was working with Daniel Dura’s TwitterCamp application today and wanted to see about changing the font. Danny was using a SWF file as the font source, so I went looking for a replacement and came across Stefan Isarie’s site. He has almost 300 fonts, all in SWF format, that you can use for your Flex or Flash application. […]

Hi and first off thanks for the great collection of sifr fonts
I found your site while looking for a way to present some Russian
text on a page in a website, unfortunately i am still not having
much joy with this and wondered which of the fonts on your site
would work for Russian text. best regards and thanks again Cat

Hello, I am very interested in downloading your fonts. However, I have a question about usage rights with these fonts. Are these fonts under the creative commons license as well?
August 7th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Great stuff, this is exactly what I was looking for - Thanks!

[…] You know, I’m an idiot. I just realised that I didn’t have my most favourite WP plugin installed and that nobody else could see the pretty fonts. It’s only because I was browsing Isarie.com’s sIFR font page that I realised I’d forgotten to re-install it. sIFR is the best invention ever, it really is! Pretty, scalable fonts on your website without your visitors having to install said pretty font. Brilliant. […]

Would you mind to remove the paging and put all the exampels on this one page. Scrolling is much more comfortable for viewing the font examples. If you do not want too long page You may want to put it in a div{height:500px;overflow:scroll}.
Thank you

I think you should categorize the pages instead of Number them. That is, have it be “ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ” instead of 1 2 3 4 5 6….
This is an uneven distribution but it would be much easier to navigate and find the font that you want.

[…] I reverted back to the Flash MX, and re-swf’ed a few fonts. I also visited some .swf font locales online - notably Fontsmack and Isarie. While the title graphic above ("Agent Flynn") is in the Armor Piercing font, it doesn’t convert too well to sIFR. I had also liked the looks of BankGothic MD BT (too wide), Dirty Headline, Misproject, and Zalamander, but none worked that well. Headline One also looked promising, but had both spacing and punctuation issues. […]

OMG! Thank you very, very much for this collection. I has been an absolute lifesaver for me. Thanks again.
January 26th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Great idea. Thanks for sharing. This overcomes some of the labouring process of converting your own versions of the same fonts into sIFRable ones, so good work.
Look forward to coming back for the updated swf font pack. ;o)
P.S. Frantisek Malina - If you have read the sIFR documentation. sIFR is not ideal for outputting large amounts of sIFRed text on one page which is probably why this kind person has not done so here…
January 27th, 2008 at 7:55 am
The reason I do not categorize the pages alphabetically and use numbers instead is that I’m not very good with PHP. But if any of you would like to contribute, you’re to! Please write an email message to me [ stefan.isarie (at) gmail.com ] and I will support you.
The requirements are:
- read the directory that contains all the sIFR fonts
- build alphabetic index
- keep the same structure as numerical index have [ sIFR font view, save path and font name ]
I will provide both views, anyone could choose whatever view suits him better.
Please let me know!

Hi Stefan, do you know how to have two completely different fonts on one swf? I want, for example, helvetica as a bold version, and arial as a normal version, so I can have both in one paragraph. I’ve search for tutorial on this everywhere, cant seem to find how to do it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thx.

Thank you! I was thinking about getting Flash but then I saw your blog post. This saved me time and money.

[…] So that’s JavaScript, CSS and HTML taken care of, now we just need our font. If you have Adobe Flash installed on your computer you can simply open sifr.fla, which is in the flash folder. Once opened you’ll see a blank movie clip on the stage, double click the movie clip and you’ll see some text appear, simply delete the text and type a single letter in the movie clip, it doesn’t matter what the letter is, the important thing is that you change the text to the font you want to use. If you want to use font variants then you will need to type another character and click the bold or italicize button. Once you have a single character for each of the font variants you want to use, click file and export the movie clip. The resulting .swf file is your font, this is what you need to upload and specify in the variable you created in the sifr-config.js file. If you don’t have flash on your pc you can download a whole bunch of sIFR font , for free at isarie.com […]
